CREATION (2) - THE CREATIVE & DEVELOPMENT PROCESS GUIDE

Updated: May 16

CREATION

The word "creation" comes from the Latin word "creatio," which is derived from the verb "creare," meaning "to create" or "to make."

The concept of creation has deep roots in religious and philosophical traditions, often referring to the act of bringing something into existence or the process of forming and shaping.

  1. Bringing into Existence: The primary definition relates to the action or process of bringing something into existence. This could refer to the creation of tangible things, like buildings, books, clothes, landscapes, etc... but this also implies the intangible things, like the ideas, that can be thought or spoken and therefore have come to light.

  2. Artistic Expression: Creation also refers to things made or invented, especially those demonstrating artistic talent. This includes works of art, achievements, and masterpieces that showcase creative expression and skill.

  3. Cosmological Creation: In a religious or philosophical context, creation often refers to the act of bringing the universe into existence. For example"the Creation" typically denotes the act of a God that brings the universe and everything in it into being.

CREATIVITY

There is an old saying, that usually comes to mind when I'm thinking about CREATIVITY or being INVENTIVE :

"NECESSITY is the mother of INVENTION"

SOURCES

Creativity usually comes from needs or challenges, from unresolved problems or conflicts, from unanswered questions, from limitations or desires, from unusual perspectives or situations, from unexpected inputs, from moving out of our comfort zone, from trying to go further, beyond what we think our possibilities are, from switching roles, from starting again from zero after failing, from knowing that to fill up something, first it needs to be cleared up or empty, from trying different ways to do the same thing, from observing, listening and interacting with wider sources of information, because CREATIVITY comes from emboding and accepting the change .

CHANGE

CHANGE is a way of being in MOTION, to keep us updated with life. Accepting it can be very useful for those wanting to be CREATIVE and it's important not to be afraid of it.

Live recording of my song BORN TO FLY minutes after composing it. The video includes the chords of the song.

FREEDOM & EXPERIMENTATION

Like the character in the song BORN TO FLY, we all need the freedom to try new things, that will help us to have new perspectives in life, leading us to be more open and flexible to do the necessary transformations in our every day tasks.

TRANSFORMATION

"A marked change in form, nature, or appearance"

  • Synonyms: change, alteration, modification, variation, conversion, revision, amendment, metamorphosis, transfiguration, evolution, mutation, remodelling, reshaping, remoulding, redoing, reconstruction, rebuilding, recasting, reorganization, rearrangement, reordering, reshuffling, restyling, rejigging, reworking, renewal, renewing, revamping, renovation, overhaul, remaking, revolutionizing, transmutation.

  • Opposite: preservation, conservation...

Transforming, remixing, re-imagining, versioning, re-arranging or modifing an already made object, idea or project, is also a creative path. Using it as a starting point could help us with the structure of our own creations, that's why COLLABORATIONS can be a great source of INSPIRATION and creative tools.

IN MUSIC

We have:

  • Variations

  • Versions

  • Arrangements

  • Remixes

  • Musical Quotations

  • Derivate works...

And they all are ways of transforming a musical work.

This is an example of a collaboration of mine with BAHAMA SOUL CLUB the song called MANGO, a Latin Jazz track with a mambo groove. The second video is the REGGAE REMIX of the song made by TheEEs.

IN CODING

We work with codes as if they were building blocks, because there are many repetitive processes that need to be achieved in order to develop any website or app.

We have:

  • Code Snippets sharing ( Mdn , w3Schools...)

  • Thematic Templates for Websites building ( Wix ...)

  • Downloding Repositories (Github...)

  • Open Source Projects for Collaboration

  • Code Playground ( CodePen, SoloLearn ...)

  • Libraries

among others...

INTERART an open source project that I'm developping.

MUSIC PRODUCTION, CONTENT CREATION & CODING (TEMPLATES & LIBRARIES)

Libraries and templates are tools and sources of inspiration for creators. They can also be used as references when creating original works:

For example I use:

For MUSIC PRODUCTION & AUDIO EDITING:

For AUDIOVISUAL CONTENT CREATION & EDITING

For WRITING SCRIPTS

For CODING

...among others

They all bring some sort of structure to my creative and development process from music releases, animations... to social media posts.

In cases like YOUR EYES in which I was looking to create a video for the song without having the footage , CANVA provided me with the necessary resources to get it done.

VIDEO CONCEPT

"Film noir, noises, a dysfunctional love story. The eyes in the shadows, the eyes in the mind, the eyes are the camera. Nostalgic, dreamy, mysterious... Characters are looping through time. The time, the time, your eyes, your eyes..."

HOW TO START WITH ANY PROJECT ?

STRUCTURE

My first approach to:

MUSIC PRODUCTION

Before creating the project to record and produce a track, I sing the idea to find out the BPM (beats per minute) of the song, then I look for a kick sample from any of my libraries or another percussive sound to use it as a substitute of the metronome click, because it's good to have a warmer sound to start a recording.

AUDIOVISUAL CONTENT CREATION

Before making a design, an illustration or a video I need to define the Aspect Ratio of it, taking into account the platform or medium where it will be shown.

WRITING

After I have an idea I think about who's the one telling the story and to whom it will be told, and from that perspective I choose the format to write it.

CODING

To start coding I need to think about the best way to develop the idea using reusable and interactive components.

IN GENERAL

When I'm starting to produce or create any project I need to understand the basic structure of if, to be able to shape it consistenly.

SOME OF THE FOLLOWING POINTS MAY HELP YOU WITH YOUR OWN WORK

Preparation and Planning:

  • Having an accessible work space or tool to be able to record, write or develop an idea.

Warm-Up Element:

  • Choosing a comfortable creative space to work, from organic sounds to intuitive tools or frameworks.

Foundation for Creation:

  • Defining the primary structure or format of it.

Contextual Considerations:

  • Defining the target audience of the final work.

Iterative Approach:

  • Revisiting, editing and improving the project knowing that less is more.

Audience-Centric Approach:

  • Knowing how your target audience interacts with similar projects will give you a comparative perspective to evaluate it in context and to better produce it.

Optimization for Efficiency:

  • Managing your time schedule, knowing that every person has different rhythms and approaches in order to achieve a similar result, knowing that breaks are as important as the working hours.

Copyright

I will dedicate another post to Copyright, but I think that after mentioning libraries and transformative tools and processses using content and work from others it's important to always look for the copyright terms before using them.

GENERAL ADVICE To CREATE, TRANSFORM or INVENT we need the spark of INSPIRATION  but we may also need the help of COLLABORATORS OR ADVISERS, efficient tools, work environments and inputs, that allow us to keep surprising ourselves and others with new ideas.
